About WALC

Mission
The mission of DISC-Woodville Alternative Learning Center is to cultivate leadership for our young men to become caring and competent adults, by integrating innovative instructional methods, focusing on personal development and career readiness.

Vision
DISC-Woodville Alternative Learning Center will be a safe and nurturing environment focused on alternative strategies to promote student achievement, personal responsibility, and to foster a sense of community contribution.

History
DISC Village operates a beautiful residential services campus in Woodville, Florida. The Woodville Campus is approximately 15 miles south of Tallahassee and is a 180-acre campus that includes several program buildings, an educational/ vocational facility, recreational building, sports areas and ROPES course, community meeting space, central nursing center and administrative building. The campus serves as a location for both juvenile and adult residential programs. Clients may be voluntary or court-ordered to the programs on this campus.

Academics

Describe the Learning Environment
The curriculum at Woodville Alternative Learning Center is designed to reinforce academic performance and to develop skills in the areas of language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, vocational training, and career readiness; as well as the processes of reading, writing, speaking, listening, critical thinking, and the use of technology.

The Next Generations Sunshine State Standards (preparation for FCAT and End of Course Assessments) are integrated in all subject areas. The school provides an environment that will promote excellence in teaching and student learning for grades 6-12. The administration and faculty at WALC work to provide a positive learning environment for our students and all teachers hold a valid State of Florida teaching certificate. Students that complete the state required course work for high school graduation will be awarded a Leon County Schools High School Diploma or Special Diploma. All course work completed at WALC is eligible to be transferred to a home zone school district, if enrolled and completed by the end of a semester term.

WALC promotes high academic standards by offering the following:

Testing and Evaluation
WALC students participate in all evaluation programs as utilized by the Leon County School District. These include, but are not limited to Writes Upon Request and all Florida Comprehensive Assessment Tests (FCAT 2.0) and End of Course Exams (EOC).
